Our policies align with the government initiative for Sustainability Victoria known as Towards Zero Waste. We follow these policies in operating the business and in serving the community as recycling and waste management specialists. Specifically, we are guided by the statewide targets of a 1.5 million tonne reduction in the projected quantity of solid waste generated by 2014. This includes an 80 per cent recovery of construction and demolition solid waste for reuse and recycling, with an interim target of 65 per cent for 2008–09. 

Through the years we have taken a leadership role in recycling technology and concern for environmental impact. Our specialists work with our client base to communicate information that results in recovery, re-use and recycling of resources. We have built new recycling plants to provide infrastructure, and innovative waste avoidance and management systems. In addition, the quality of our recycled products and our capabilities in the industry help build confidence in the market for recycled construction and demolition material. Our operations meet Occupational Health and Safety guidelines.

A family-owned business, Sunshine Groupe of companies began in 1926 when the Buxton Real Estate Company opened its first basalt quarry in Market Road, Brooklyn. The Buxton family has been continuously involved since John Robert Buxton and his son R. R. Buxton, Sr, established the operation to provide road stone for a land subdivision in Brighton. The company went on to run numbers of quarries and hotmix plant operations in Victoria over the years. Today the Sunshine Groupe continues under the stewardship of a great grandson, Tom Buxton, and a great-great grandson, Christian Buxton.
