Community Initiatives

We’ve been a proud and active member of the community for over 90 years.

Throughout that time, we’ve seen numerous changes as the West continues to grow and thrive as a place to work and live. In fact, we’ve been around long enough to see our second AFL Premiership Cup take pride at Western oval. We are proud to employ local people from the surrounding area and focus our community initiatives on supporting and growing the exciting and evolving story of Melbourne’s West.

Local Community Project Investment – Sunshine Groupe Gives Back

Being involved in local initiatives is more than giving back – it’s about playing an active and positive role in the community where we work and live. We are passionate about contributing on a local level, where our assistance can help affect real change and drive important outcomes affecting everyone in our community. We are honored to support several causes we feel strongly about.

We’ve donated $5,000 to Friends of Kororoit Creek to help upgrade the landscaping of the beloved community bike track known as the Federation Trail.

Another passion of ours is furthering research surrounding mental health.

We know that a healthy mind is the key to feeling valued and strong enough to lead lives that will better our relationships and have a wider and more productive impact on our communities. With healthy minds, we can do great things and make decisions that drive positive outcomes for family, community and the environment. It’s this belief that led our General Manager, Christian Buxton, to co-found and chair the Bolt Blowers Invitational, an annual surf competition that raises money for mental health initiatives. The Sunshine Groupe is proud to donate $5,000.00 annually to the staging of this event.

Currently, the Bolt Blowers deliver funds to two key partners:

– The Good Life Farm: an inspiring organisation connecting young people with animals to improve mental health.

– One in Five Foundation: an organisation focused on supporting research in mental health with the aim of finding a cure for mental illness.

Find out more information about the Bolt Blowers via their Facebook page and website.

Sunshine Groupe supports surfing for Mental Health

Sunshine Groupe Managing Director, Christian Buxton, believes passionately that with enough research, a cure for mental illness will be found. He is particularly focussed on advocating awareness of coping strategies for men who live with mental health issues. Sunshine Groupe is proud to support Christian’s advocacy through an annual donation of $5,000 to One in Five, a not for profit organisation dedicated to funding research into a cure for mental illness. The Sunshine Groupe also supports the annual surfing event, The Bolt Blower Invitational, a surfing competition to raise funds and awareness of mental health.

The mission of the Bolt Blowers Invitational Surf Event is to empower people to understand mental illness and ease their pain and confusion regarding this medical condition. To do this, the ‘Bolt Blowers’ empower people through action.

Held annually, the retro surf competition involves participants riding original single and twin fin surfboards pre-dating 1983. Teams consist of seven surfers and must include at least one female surfer. There is a minimum of 12 teams and the proceeds go toward projects the Bolt Blowers feel passionate about that help those living with mental illness as well as their families, friends and support networks.

Now in its eighth year, The Bolt Blower Invitational Surf competition has raised over $160,000 towards outcomes aimed at improving the lives of people living with mental health issues. Funds are raised in several ways:

  1. Donations
  2. Entry fees for competitors
  3. Food, drinks and apparel sold during the competition
  4. Profits from our after-party event donation and a portion of the drinks sold
  5. A prize auction
  6. The support and expertise during the event from our volunteers who donate their time & skills
